Our Year 7 and Year 8 debating team have participated in the North West regional round of the national ‘Up for Debate’ Competition. The students are all members of the Debate Club who prepared two motions in advance of the competition; They proposed the motion that there should be tax on junk food and opposed the motion that cultural artefacts should be returned to their country of origin (the team had no choice as to whether they proposed or opposed!). The students were also given an extra, unrehearsed proposal on the day to debate which was opposing the motion that there would be 50% female MPs by 2028.
The team did brilliantly, finishing 5th out of 28 teams and Harrison Kasperowicz was placed in the top 10 of 84 individual speakers. Well done to all the students involved!
