Congleton Parliamentary candidates have been welcomed to Eaton Bank Academy Sixth Form for a special hustings event. The event provided students from Eaton Bank Academy, Alsager School and Sandbach High School with the opportunity develop a greater understanding of the policies offered by parties standing for election in the Congleton Constituency.

Six of the seven local candidates took part, allowing the audience to hear a breadth of political views and opinions.  The students’ questions covered topics relevant to young people including the proposed re-introduction of national service, lowering the voting age to 16, the availability of affordable first-time housing, tuition fees and the scrapping of ‘mickey mouse’ degrees. Thank you to the students who asked questions and to the candidates who took the time to attend the event; Paul Duffy (Liberal Democrats), Richard McCarthy (Green Party), Rob Moreton (Independent), Sarah Russell (Labour), Kay Wesley (Women’s Equality Party),) and Martin York (Reform UK).
Fiona Bruce (Conservatives) was invited, but unable to attend the event.
