Name
Abbie Bowden
What are you studying?
I am currently doing French, English Literature, History and Maths at A-Level.
Why did you want to become Head of Student Body?
As Head of Student Body, you have a voice, as well a responsibility to represent others’ voices, so I felt that through this position I could make and advocate for real change. Even if it’s not world changing, I think initiatives and projects we do in the school and in the community make a real difference, and it’s nice to be a part of that.
What does your role involve?
As Head of Student Body, a lot our role is organising and consolidating; we receive and input different ideas, evaluate them and then work to put it all together. As well as that, we also represent the school, taking part in events, such as Open Evenings.
What are your personal strengths?
One of my biggest strengths is my dedication, I think. Being able to commit to an idea or initiative is really important in Student Leadership, as they can often get forgotten or ignored, even when they’re perfectly feasible. As a result of my role though, my communication skills have massively improved, not just speaking publicly, but more importantly, communicating effectively with the whole team.
What are you looking forward to as Head of Student Body?
This year we have a lot of ideas and plans. A particular focus will be gender identity and sexuality, as well as this, we have two new deputies who will be concentrating on how we can make our school greener, working with groups in the community on programs, like the Plastic Free Congleton initiative. Coming soon, we have a Fancy Dress-up Day in Sixth Form on 21st October, and are hoping to restart the Food Bank in the 2nd half term.
What are your plans for the future?
I am hoping to study French and Arabic at the University of Cambridge.

What are you studying?
I study Physics, Maths, History and completed an Extended Project Qualification last year.
Why did you want to become Head of Student Body?
I wanted to be able to represent my friends and myself within the school and play an active part in improving the school to become a better environment for us all.
What does your role involve?
My role involves management and organisation. As Head of Student body, I have frequent meetings with staff and students about how to improve the school and how we should approach various opportunities such as charity events. For those reasons being able to manage time and organise the logistics of various events well enough is very important.
What are your personal strengths?
A personal strength of mine includes leadership and logistical thinking. Having lived in various countries, I have been able to learn different ways of approaching problems and have also become comfortable with speaking to a wide variety of people as a result of it.
What are you looking forward to as Head of Student Body?
The main change I want to bring this year is to change our outlook on gender identity. Our school has always strived towards gender equality and has taken great steps to implement this, but it is still apparent that there are still fundamental prejudices present and now is the time for us to change for the better. Alongside our tackling of these fundamental issues, we are also looking forward to also making an impact in our community by staging various charity events for those in need, including the Sixth Form Fancy Clothes day on the 21st of October. We are also planning on reintroducing the Food Bank four weeks before we split up for the Christmas holiday to help those who need food during Christmas.
What are your plans for the future?
My current plan for the future is to apply to Cambridge University to study Theoretical Physics.
