Introduction to Careers

Futures at Eaton Bank

At Eaton Bank Academy, we aim to provide students with unbiased guidance about their futures that will allow them to understand the skills and knowledge they are developing within the academic curriculum. Development of the necessary skills and careers awareness begins in Year 7 and students will experience a carefully sequenced careers curriculum over their time at Eaton Bank that builds the necessary skills to make informed decisions for their future. Students will fully understand the academic, vocational and technical routes available to them and have the opportunity to gain real world information for each option.

At the core of our Futures offer is the opportunity for students to have face-to-face careers interviews with our in-house and completely independent Careers Advisor. This usually happens during Key Stage 4. However, through using a monitoring process and strong pastoral system we identify any students in need of earlier intervention and act accordingly.

The Futures Team work closely with the Learning and Progress Managers from each Key Stage, including the Sixth Form Team, to ensure students receive the advice and guidance required at these crucial stages.

Parents and employers can gain more information about the careers programme by contacting Ms Davies or Mrs Bailey (contact details below). Students can to speak to Mrs Bailey (located in the LRC at break and lunch time) or Ms Davies.

Careers Events

5th December 2023
The Year 11 Mock Interview event, held on 5.12.23, was hugely successful. The majority of the 176 students attended the session and were interviewed by a number of volunteers from outside industry and other organisations. The volunteers thought the event was well organised and ran extremely smoothly.
The comments on the students were all very positive:
  • “The students’ interpersonal skills are excellent and they are a real credit to the school.”
  • “All the students I interviewed were engaging and well-mannered.”
  • “What excellent students you have at Eaton Bank, all of them were polite and engaging.”
A big thank you to all the volunteers who gave up their time to be here for us, your help is always greatly appreciated!
28th Sept 2023 All the Eaton Bank 3D design students had the opportunity to look around the Siemens factory on 28th September, celebrating National Manufacturing Day.  The students were able to walk across the production area, whilst learning from Charlotte and Jack, two of the apprentices, about the products Siemens manufacture.

In the customer Experience Centre, the students listened to a very informative talk about how Siemens have embraced the concept of sustainability to achieve impressive goals within the company.

A final activity involved rotating around a room in groups, to discuss with members of the Siemens staff the various roles within the company (whilst enjoying some tasty refreshments!).  Thank you to Suzanne Edwards, Simone Pearcy and all the staff from Siemens who made us so welcome.

22 September 2023
A number of our GCSE Business students attended the East Cheshire Chamber of Commerce Business Fair this week. The event was held at the newly refurbished Congleton Leisure Centre. Students were able to meet local business leaders face-to-face, learning more about the various businesses and organisations in our community.

The students were also fortunate enough to be able to take a look around the fantastic facilities at the leisure centre.

13 July 2023 An extremely successful Summer Careers Morning took place on 14th July. A huge thank you to all our guests for volunteering to be here to deliver presentations, workshops and team building activities for each and every one of the students in the school:

Members of the British Army
Bank of America
Zeneca
Balfour Beatty
Chemical Business Association
NHS Health and Social Care
Buxton & Leek College
Equans
ASK
The Pledge

05 July 2023 The Explore programme culminated in a visit to Crewe Alex Football Club today. The morning’s visit consisted of a site tour, an interesting insight into the variety of job roles within the club and a questions and answers session with several of the staff. Students enjoyed having the chance to hold the trophy won by the club during last year’s season and celebrating the end of the programme with the collection of their certificates. Well done to those students who completed the programme!

04 July 2023 A number of our Year 10 students started to think about their post-16 journey and explored a range of vocational courses at Macclesfield College. They had a fantastic time and did themselves and us proud. Highlights were: giving and receiving hand massages in the therapy rooms, creating hairstyles in the salon, handling snakes in the animals zone, fixing tyres in the garage and making mobile phone holders in the workshop. On leaving, it was reassuring and heart-warming when staff from the College told us how brilliant our students had been.

23 June 2023 An insight into the workings of the Cranage Hall Hotel & Conference Centre was on the agenda for The Explore Programme students this week. Students took part in an activity with Abbie, the Events Management apprentice, on how to best optimise bookings to ensure the smooth running of the hotel & then students had a circuit training session with Elliott, the fitness instructor/apprentice, whilst learning about the facilities & job roles in the hotel spa.
Huge thanks to Lewis Isaac, HR Manager, for arranging the interesting & informative tour of the hotel!

18 May 2023 Today students on The Explore programme visited Wild Rumpus to hear how the company operates. The staff working in the organisation, design, market & host festivals within the grounds. They also create works of art, for example, light installations, for such places as Chester Zoo. A tour around the scenic site took in the Round House, Tree House and the Design Barn.

Careers Supports

Students

Unifrog:

At Eaton Bank, we invest in the brilliant software platform, Unifrog, which is available to all students and teachers in the school. Every student has a log-in, so can use this platform both in Careers sessions and independently.

KS3: You will access Unifrog to understand more about your own personality. You will complete the interests and personality quizzes so that the information on Unifrog will be bespoke to your competencies. IF the quizzes have found that you are an excellent communicator; the jobs and opportunities suggested will hold communication at the core of the role.

KS4: We use Unifrog Placements to organise and record work experience in Year 10. This allows students to take ownership of the process and for students, school and employers to work together seamlessly. You can use Unifrog to explore your options after Year 11 and to gain MOOCS to enhance your CVs. Unifrog will also be used to create an effective and professional CV.

KS5: Unifrog is the platform you will use to apply for university and to consider your future options. You will create your personal

statement on Unifrog and your references will be collated here. The aim is that you will have had several opportunities to access Unifrog in KS3 and KS4 so that you have a familiarity on the platform at this point.

Careers Advice:

We work with Mploy to provide every student with at least one, impartial careers interview during their time at Eaton Bank. This allows

students to speak freely with a highly qualified advisor. For those students who require extra support, we aim to provide additional interviews when needed most.
