A year 9 student team has entered the ‘Dragons Den’ at Manchester Airport and succeeded in securing funding of £100 for their start up business. Isla Chesworth, Phoebe Hall, Elayna Proudmore-Callear, Chloe Thomason, Abbie Higginson and Caitlin Young pitched their Snowbuddies Christmas product to a panel of judges from Manchester Airport, Singapore Airlines and John Lewis.
Competing against other local schools, the judges were very impressed with the Eaton Bank Academy students, saying they were ‘blown away’ by their business idea and thought the Snowbuddies had great sales potential. The team also made an excellent impression on the judges throughout their presentation, maintaining good eye contact throughout and delivering their presentation without any notes.
The team will be investing their £100 to make Snowbuddies and start to market their product as a door stop, ornament or gift. They will be going back to the airport for a sales day on 27th November where they are given the opportunity to sell in the arrivals lounge. They will also be selling their product at other opportunities at Eaton Bank Academy and in the Congleton area. The final then takes place on 14th December at the Radisson Blu hotel, Manchester airport where they report back to the Dragons with details of their profit and what they have learned from the process.
