Bala BTEC Sport Trip

Sixth Form students and PE teachers Miss Williams, Mr Margolan, Miss Harrison and Mr Carvell have enjoyed a weekend at the Glan-Llyn outdoor activity centre near Bala.  The annual trip forms part of the BTEC Sport course and enables students to take part in a wide range of activities including night canoeing and kayaking, gorge walking in Dolgellau, mountain biking in Coed-y-brenin and a high ropes activity course.

Over the three days the 15 students enjoyed friendly rivalries including a ‘boys versus girls’ raft building exercise on Llyn Tegid. The competition began with the two teams designing their rafts, building miniature prototypes and selecting the quantity of barrels, rope and wood they required for their design. The two teams then canoed to an island on the lake with their chosen equipment to begin the construction of the rafts. The boys’ team were first to the Island, but the girls had a superior raft design and managed to paddle back to shore first, securing victory for Miss Williams’ team!

Miss Williams commented “the raft building exercise was really enjoyable competition and we were really pleased we won!  The whole trip was amazing and we were lucky to have great weather.  The activities have enabled the students to develop their self-confidence, team working and communication skills. The students were brilliant and took part in all of the activities with great enthusiasm.”
