We are delighted to have set up the ‘Academy Lecture Series’, which is a series of 30 minute lectures given by staff and volunteer Sixth Form Honours students for Years 9 to 11.
The programme of lectures is designed to supplement students’ learning, offering them the chance to learn something new, whilst preparing them for a Further Education lecture style of learning. The lectures take place during lunchtimes in the Sixth Form Centre, therefore avoiding missing subject time.
So far this year students have enjoyed two lectures; “What is Equality?” and “Hardwired to Obey?” and ”The C Word,” a lecture about Cancer delivered by Alex Smith, one of our Sixth Form Honours students (pictured). The most recent lecture was “Korea: Culture and Crisis” where Miss Davies spoke about her experience of living and teaching in South Korea for two years.
We are looking for new speakers for our 2018/19 series of lectures!
If you’d like to offer 30 minutes of your time talking about something you are knowledgeable and passionate about, and would be of interest to our year 9-13 students, please contact Mrs Knott firstname.lastname@example.org – thank you!
